Fracking

It doesn't cause big earthquakes......so it's OK. Yeah you heard it..only little earthquakes so it's fine.
We won't mention all the water that turns to turd.
Just because something is an alternative doesn't mean it's THE alternative.

Bernie in Bahrain

The whole race in Bahrain thing is unpleasant and complex.

But there was only ever going to be one winner...

The flag is inverted, but not sure it comes across properly what with it being black and white...oops..

Olympics

Maybe if this government actually gave a shit about this country it wouldn't have to go around telling us all to be on our best behaviour and asking us not to embarrass them when their precious Olympics comes round.

I have no problem with the Olympics per say, what irks me is sticking a plaster over a gaping wound. Lets just brush all the tramps, homeless and prostitutes away for two weeks, we don't care why they're there in the first place, just as long as they're seen an not heard.

You can't polish a turd. Unless you've been watching Mythbusters of course..then you can find out how...

Workfare at Westminster?

As I was hammering away at the other abomination - this came to mind.
Wouldn't it be a good idea.

I'd love to see Dave C doing his job for free until we decided he wasn't up to it and we could get rid of him.

'Fare' Society

Well, it's been a few months..first we moved house, then it was Christmas and then it transpired that my computer was bloody well broken...then a malaise set in, big style..

However this has now been lifted by the absolute nonsense that is the DWP's 'workfare' programme. Now I'm ashamed to say, that the attempted routing of the NHS and the ominous rumblings in relation to the disability reforms did not rattle my cage as much as they should have done, however this, this snake oil has crystalised the whole thing and the entire government agenda in my eyes. This shit brings the whole damn lot into focus.

Workfare - you're on JSA and then you get made to work an almost full time week for six weeks whilst still being expected to look for a job. It equates to doing over £1000.00 worth of work and getting given around £300-£400 for it. It's the length of time and the amount of hours that really rattles me. Its also the fact that if there is work there that needs to be done there is no reason why a FTSE listed company cannot actually pay for it rather than getting it for free. NO REASON AT ALL.

Volunteering to participate in helping a charity out to improve your skills for a few hours a week to help you find a job is completely different from being made to go to work for a company that made £1.9billion profit last year for free for 6 whole weeks for 30 hours a week is soul destroying humiliation as far as I am concerned.

The employment secretary Grayling has tried to defend the whole thing by pointing out that the Guardian and the BBC are hypocrites because they offer unpaid internships.

Well, hate to break this to you Chris, but internships are horseshit as well. I don't like them either, and I certainly don't use unpaid labour myself so you can't pull that one on me.(unless you count me making my husband do the dishes as well as making the tea.) So if that is your only argument to defend this then its a bloody poor one. If you read the article below from the Telegraph it does indeed appear to be his whole argument.

Also, small difference between most internships and this rubbish. Internships :

1. Are voluntary
2. Generally give the participant skills they couldn't gain doing any other job or even an entry level job in that same organisation. What exactly does someone working at Tesco or ASDA or HMV, BHS, Holland or Barrett, Boots or Argos etc gain from doing that job?

What they're are supposed to gain is some money but now they don't even get that.

Tesco have been insistent that the entire thing is voluntary, however the testimony of job seekers, the Citizens Advice Bureau and Charities that have recently pulled out do not agree with this.
